“Straight Outta Compton” Viewer Movie Review

“Straight Outta Compton” is an American biographical film looking into the amazing journey of the rise and fall of Compton, California hip hop group N.W.A.

Even though the movie revolves around N.W.A.’s debut, they go beyond and venture into the personal stories of each main group member. Ice Cube Said the movie includes "the intimate conversations that helped forge N.W.A”

Casting was amazing, for the most part. The actors not only looked like the people they were portraying, but also mastered their mannerisms and facial expressions.  This helps you get lost into the storyline.  The acting was very believable. When audiences are familiar with the faces of the real life members, it is difficult to accomplish this.

The relationships between Ice Cube (O’Shea Jackson Jr.), Dr Dre (Corey Hawkins), Easy E (Jason Mitchell), & Jerry Heller (Paul Giamatti) were very interesting to watch and were conveyed perfectly.  Ever character had side stories, keeping the movie interesting and energetic. It was nice to get a glimpse into some details of each character and through his rebellious actions, Ice Cube quickly became our favorite.

We love movies based on true stories because they thrive on specific detail.  We understand you have to move fast through some of the less significant themes to convey the main story, but it felt a bit “Lifetimey” at some points.  This mixed with shameless promotion slightly gives us a feeling that it is a long commercial advertisement.

All-in-All, it was a good movie to watch.  Easily beating its competition in the box office, grossing $59 Million on opening weekend (smashing Tom Cruises new movie). A definite must see, especially for music lovers.
